Learn to ride or sharpen your skills! Stone Ledge Farm is fully staffed with experienced instructors and a variety of reliable lesson horses. We offer instruction in saddle seat, huntseat, western as well as driving. We also offer opportunities for monthly competitions, camps and host birthday parties!

Learning to ride is a lifelong process that involves developing thinking skills as well as balance and timing. It is similar to learning a foreign language that requires your body to do the communicating! Because of this, a rider’s physical fitness and flexibility improves along with developing an understanding of the subtleties required to ride.

To schedule your lesson, register with the Academy Director at stoneledgeacademy@gmail.com or call Christie Batka at 224-636-0399.

All riders must complete and sign a HOLD HARMLESS and a HELMET WAIVER form. Please print these out and bring to your first lesson.

Riding and driving lessons$40/lesson
Monthly $160 (1 lesson per week)
Tiny Tots (age 4-6) $25 per 30 min lesson

Riding time will last for 30 minutes. If you are interested in learning grooming and tacking, plan on arriving 15 minutes prior to your ride time to prepare your horse, and staying an additional 15 minutes to take care of it. We welcome and encourage riders to take this extra time, but do not require it. If you do not wish to participate in the preparation process, or cannot make it in time, SLF staff will have your horse ready for you.

Required Attire: Long pants, shoe or boot with a heel, and helmet required. We can provide you with a helmet. No shorts, Capris or sandals!

Makeup Classes and Absences: Students are permitted to cancel one lesson (with 24 hours notice), which may be made up during the term if spaces are available. Makeup lessons do not carry over to the next term, with the exception of a proper cancellation with the last week of classes, at which point the student will have thirty days to reschedule. It is the student's responsibility to arrange any makeup lessons carried over into the subsequent session.

Academy Showscost varies

These shows are typically held during the summer in conjunction with an ongoing horse show. Academy classes are designed for students at the beginning level of horse showing. They are held in the same manner as a regular “show” class with a few differences:
When a rider shows at an academy show SLF staff will take care of all the details. We will transport and prepare the horse and make sure tack and horse are in tip top shape for your classes. The rider will be responsible for their own transportation to the show and wearing the proper attire. It is also important to note that it is normal and proper to tip the grooms attending to your horse. A tip usually starts at $20 per groom.
