Hampshire, IL — The Summer Solstice show on June 22, 2019 is a great smaller show for many of our teams to hone up their skills before the larger shows that fall later in the season. This year, Terri Anne Ullman judged our riders and horses and while the Saddlebred division was strong here, our Morgans did very well in the equally strong OTAB division, which is always a great promoter of the breed.
Bruce and Susan Peterson’s Tudor Oaks The Real Deal GCH made a well earned victory pass in the OTAB Hunter Pleasure Championship in a large field of Morgans and other breeds with Bailey Schaller in the irons, after also besting her qualifier class. Also tying well in third place in this good class was Harlans Sharp Shooter with Alex Cleaveland, who moved up from fifth in the qualifier.
Christie Batka and her wonderful CBMF Whispers Of War did Morgans proud by winning the OTAB Western Pleasure qualifier and going on to a Reserve Champion title in the OTAB Western Pleasure Championship.
Woodstock, IL — Our family and barn has been attending the Prairie State Classic Horse Show for over 25 years, and this year’s show was certainly one of the best with our friend and mentor Sandy Sessink at the helm as the new Show Manager. Judging this year’s show was John Warner, and our wonderful photos are from the talented lens of Jon McCarthy.
Dr. Katherine Hanson had a great debut on her RWF Designed, as she had the winning ride in the Morgan English Pleasure Junior/Novice Horse Championship after trainer Becky Gruenberg tested the waters by winning the qualifier with this lovely mare.
Cameron Gruenberg and Queens American Idol GCH continued their winning streak in the Jr Exhibitor Classic Pleasure Saddle this year with back to back wins in their qualifier and championship here, as well as winning the AMHA Saddle Seat Medal.
Kris and Al Breyer’s beautiful Newmont’s Mila Belle CH was having a red ribbon show with reserves in the Open and Ladies with Becky in the saddle, and finishing with a well earned third in the very competitive open championship. Also carrying our flag in the western pleasure division was Christie Batka with her lovely CBMF Whispers Of War, who stood third in the Morgan Open Western Pleasure and earned a good ribbon in the Ladies class as well.
Natalie Johnson enjoyed two great rides on the Breyer’s BPM Estralita De Oro GCH, with a second in Jr Exhibitor Western Pleasure and a third against both amateurs and juveniles in the championship.
GSK The Negotiator and Becky were second for owner Susan Klotz in a deep class of Hunter Pleasure Stallions & Geldings, and also tied well in the huge Ladies qualifier.
Abagail Meyer rode the hide off Jessica Wilber’s Merriewold Diplomat GCH to earn the title of Morgan Hunter Pleasure Jr Exhibitor Champion, after tying second in their qualifier. Meanwhile, Becky rode Abagail’s new future mount, the gorgeous Newmont’s Angelina, to top honors in the Morgan Hunter Pleasure Junior/Novice Horse Championship after a win in the Junior Horse qualifier. Abagail also earned reserve in the AMHA Hunt Seat Medal!
Jessica Wilber and Becky teamed up to take third in the COTB English Pleasure Pro Am class, and were the top placing Morgan in this fun event.
Emily Enke made it two shows in a row with Town Affair GCH as the OTAB Walk/Trot Pleasure Champions after winning their qualifier.
Al Breyer enjoyed three excellent drives with Merriehill Angel Dust in the Carriage Driving division, with a first in Working and two seconds in Turnout and Reinsmanship.
Harlans Sharp Shooter enjoyed two solid rides and showed his Morgan versatility with good placings in Morgan Western Pleasure Open with Kelly Cleaveland and Morgan Hunter Pleasure Amateur with Alex Cleaveland.
Well represented by our great Morgan riders in the OTAB division, Stone Ledge ruled! Grace O’Brien was our OTAB Hunt Seat Equitation Champion after second in OTAB Adult Equitation Any Seat, Abagail Meyer was the OTAB Hunt Seat Equitation 17 & Under winner, and Emily Enke brought home two yellow ribbons in OTAB Walk/Trot Equitation 11 & Under in her championship and qualifier.
Our next show will be the Gold Cup Morgan Regional in Columbus, Ohio the middle of June. Stay tuned to read all about it!
Shipshewana, IN — The Indiana Spring Classic has quickly become a favorite show of many competitive midwestern barns and Stone Ledge Farm is no exception! Held at the beautiful Shipshewana horse complex the second week of April, we enjoyed being judged by Mr. David Sproul and have some wonderful photos from the talented Ken Martin to record our memories.
Jessica Wilber had a great week, culminating in a tricolor victory pass at the top of the Amateur English Pleasure Championship with her QVM National Anthemn GCH. This team came from third to first in this division, so they really stepped up their game. Switching outfits, tack and horse, Jessica then piloted Merriehill Roxie Hart GCH to a first in Hunter Pleasure Amateur.
Kacy Lawver and Hells Bells CH earned a very respectable Reserve Championship in Classic Pleasure Saddle, one of the toughest divisions of this show. Also earning top five honors in this class were Bonnie Miller and RCV All The Rage GCH, who also won the Classic Pleasure Driving Ladies.
Cameron Gruenberg made a clean sweep of the Junior Exhibitor Classic Pleasure Saddle division with wins in her qualifier and the championship on Queens American Idol GCH. This pair gets better every year! And just to prove they’re more than performance stars, Cam and her best guy also won the Morgan Saddle Seat Equitation 13 & Under class.
Al and Kris Breyer always have a nice entry for the Western Pleasure division and their beautiful Minion Millennium daughter, Newmont’s Mila Belle CH jogged to victory in the Open Western Pleasure, turned in a red ribbon ride in Ladies and wrapped it up as the Western Pleasure Champions at this show. Becky Gruenberg did the honors in the saddle for the Breyers.
Becky was in her tall boots for a sucessful ride on Dantree Debutante CH for Grace O’Brien in the Open Hunter Pleasure, warming her up for Grace who secured a second place in the Ladies Hunter Pleasure, then going on to tie third in the very competitive Amateur Hunter Pleasure Stake.
Our Walk-Trot riders were in good form as Emily Enke rode a great class with Gail Kelce’s Town Affair GCH to take the top honors in Hunter Pleasure Walk/Trot 11 & Under Championship. They moved up from third in their qualifier, proving the determination of this team.
We’re looking forward to our next show, the longstanding Prairie State Classic on May 31st through June 2 in Woodstock, Illinois!
